Another objects athat is most traditional and treasured of our bindery, the bookbinders hammer, sometimes reffered to as a cobblers hammer.

The book binders hammer is used by our bindery team. It features a large round head that allows a more even blow, and avoids marring the fabric. The hammer is short and stocky, but is heavy.

This hammer dates back some 40+ years and is incredibly solid.

Few objects are more beautifully purposeful than those most traditional and treasured of our bindery, the Nipping press.

The Nipping Press above is used by our bindery team. It firmly presses down all the pages so that the book stays closed and can be trimmed neatly around the edges. Most use a very simple corkscrew method to generate pressure. Turn the handle and a flat metal plate (platen) is lowered down towards another, flattening anything in between.

This Press probably dates back some 40+ years and is incredibly solid, we try to move it as little as possible! With a good amount of “daylight” (distance between platens) and a good base area. Books must be pressed for period of time during binding, to make the core as solid as possible.
